D.iatomaceous earth consists of 150 million year old single-celled shellfish with a skeleton of almost 100% silicon and 15 other trace elements. When viewed under a microscope it looks like glass shards.

Due to its structure, diatomaceous earth binds an enormous amount of moisture and therefore has a drying effect on its environment. It is used both as a nutritional supplement and in animal enclosures to suppress lice or other animals. Both the fur of the animals and the animal enclosures can be treated with this.

HOW DOES THE DIATOMEAN EARTH REPRESENT PARASITES?

The sharp edges (amorphous) of the diatom fossils are very useful. Parasites rub themselves open on it, which affects their protective layer. Because the protective layer is broken, the diatomaceous earth will immediately absorb their body fluids, causing them to dehydrate and die. And that is precisely what makes diatomaceous earth so effective and that red lice cannot become resistant to it.

FIGHTING BLOOD LICE IN THE CHICKEN (NIGHT) PENTHOUSE:

Red mites hide in the seams and cracks of the chicken coop, so apply a layer of diatomaceous earth to these areas. The existing blood mites that walk over the powder grind themselves open and then die. The chicken coop is now no longer a safe environment for the blood mites, so they stay away. But be careful, even after years of (sleep) apparent absence, the red mites can become active again.

FIGHTING FEATHER LICE:

DIATOMEAN EARTH IN THE NIGHT COVE:

By thoroughly powdering the chicken coop with diatomaceous earth you ensure that parasites can no longer enter the coop. The most important places are the seams and cracks of the night cage, as these are often the most sheltered and safest hiding places for parasites. Repeat this every time after cleaning as a preventive treatment!

ALSO PROTECT THE LAYING NEST WITH DIATOMEAN EARTH!

We recommend also sprinkling the diatomaceous earth in the laying nest. This prevents mites and lice from crawling on your chickens while they are breeding, laying eggs or sleeping. Sprinkle a new layer in the laying nest every time you change it. If you see red dots of blood on the eggs, this is also an indication that red mites are present. If you have plastic flaps for the laying nest, also check/check this carefully for the presence of red mites. If the chickens have pale combs, this is a very clear indication and it is high time to take action as the chicken is already suffering from anemia.
